How do I get people to subscribe via an email?
In Aweber I can get people to send a blank email which then automatically adds them to a list.
I want to do the same with CampaignMonitor but can't see how...!
Surely, it must be possible - after all that's been a standard way of adding people to mailing lists for over 20 years....!
Please tell me it's possible...
Hi Graham, we don't have a way to automatically add subscribers via email, I'm sorry to say. Our usual method is to have new subscribers sign up via a form hosted on a site. For one, it's much easier for senders to show explicit permission this way (ie. by having an opt-in checkbox on their site, or similar), whereas subscribing via email makes opting in a little fuzzy in this regard.
Please let us know if there's anything we can do to assist in working around this limitation - we're always happy to make suggestions.
Subscribing via email is ESSENTIAL....!
I'm an Internet Psychologist and I investigate the ways in which people interact and behave online. Subscribing to newsletters via email is seen as preferable by many people. The reason is they find form filling too slow - PLUS they can easily send an email using a mobile phone, but filling in an online form is difficult (unless they have a smartphone AND they have at least 3G connectivity).
In other words NOT having subscribe via email dramatically reduces the chances of people signing up.
The notion of being able to give permission is perceived differently by regulators than it is by users. People believe that when they send the email they ARE giving permission.
It is a significant omission - and very strange you don't include it when all of your competitors do...!
I really love CampaignMonitor but the lack of subscribe by email has just stunned me.
Hi Graham, we're sorry that we fall short of the mark here. I'm happy to add your vote for this feature internally and let you know if it's something we consider in the future. Many thanks for your passionate feedback!
Thanks Rosanne - let's hope the developers can add it soon...! In the meantime I will have to find some "half-way" kind of measure - perhaps an autoresponder from my own email system making people think they have signed up by email, with me then actually adding them manually. OK for a handful of subscribers I guess.
