I'm having a problem using a custom field in a link token.... for example if I use the [lastname, fallback=] most places it will pull the info from the database, but if it is inside a link:
<a href="http://www.mydomain.com/test.las?nl=[lastname,fallback=]" />
the link comes from campaign monitor encoded and when you click it the url looks like this.
this was working fine about 2 weeks ago and now i cannot get any custom info to display in a link.
We're working on this problem, and we should have a fix very soon. We'll let you know when it's been deployed.
Sorry for the inconvenience.
Has your team deployed this fix? I'm having the same issue, and have a deadline on Monday that requires this feature.
I'm afraid not. The issue is only in preview emails though. The personalization tags will work in fully sent campaigns which you can test out by sending one to yourself (campaigns to 5 or fewer recipients are free). We're working hard on getting this fixed and hopefully it should be soon.
Thanks for the response. Using the personalization tag feature for a Link/URL didn't work when using a full sent campaign. The code generated for the url pulled in the correct data string, but threw in the location of where I imported my html email.
Is this feature not working for HTML emails in "fully sent campaigns"? Other non-url personalization tags work fine, it's just the url one that's getting messed up.
That sounds more like a problem in your specific HTML Heather - what does your HTML look like, and what is a typical value of the custom field you are inserting?
Here's my HTML for the link in the email: <a href="[link, fallback=]" target="_blank">
The data in the Custom Field for link, which has a Data Type of Text, is the following:
What seems to be happening is that when the HTML email is delivered (non preview email, but a real one), that the link when clicked on in the email is remembering the import location from web of when I uploaded the .html file to Campaign Monitor, and appending that to the Custom Field link url.
There is something in your programming that is causing this to happen.
Could you send in an email to support? I think it'll be easier if we can see your full campaign and custom field data.
Hi Diana - I've sent in an email to support. Thanks!
Just a quick note to let you know that this issue has now been fixed. Thanks again for getting in touch with us in regards to the problem, and our apologies for any inconvenience caused.
It appears that this isn't fixed when using "Import from web" to upload your assets to Campaign Monitor. However, uploading your HTML file and zipping your images using "Import from my computer" does the trick. A bit of a pain, but oh well. :P
Hi tbuchok, could you kindly contact our support team with details? We'd be curious to see why this isn't working when you import from web.
